Important conversations in healthcare

Blue Skies was hosted by Lurgan Hospital in Northern Ireland and presented during Dying Matters Week (2-6 May,2022).

“Amazing;” “That was fantastic” and “Really thought-provoking” are just some of the comments following the online performance of Blue Skies, a play written by Brian Daniels.

The performance was hosted by Lurgan Hospital in Northern Ireland and presented during Dying Matters Week (2-6 May,2022). The hospital is part of the Southern Health and Social Care Trust that provides services in Northern Ireland and runs a number of hospitals there.

The writing of the play was originally commissioned by Wakefield Hospice and the aim was to encourage conversations around advance care planning, organ donation, living wills, power of attorney and bereavement support.

“I would like to add to the comments,” said Gerard Leddy, Specialist Palliative Care Service Lead (Macmillan) at Southern Health & Social Care Trust. “I have just had a team member come into my office following the play and has said they feel attending this play will help with facilitation of a conversation around Advance Care Planning which they are about to go out and do.”
