Homeward Bound

Exploring the challenges of terminal illness through the compelling tale of a love that ended too soon

Based on the true story of Seth and Lesley Goodburn, ‘Homeward Bound’ explores some of the distressing challenges and disappointments that Seth experienced towards the end of his life; Seth tragically died of pancreatic cancer just 33 days after he was given the diagnosis.

This extraordinary play has been performed to a range of health professionals and led to the development of a number of education resources intended to help those working in the health sector reflect on their practice and improve end of life care.  Though much of Seth’s experience of care was positive, the play touches on the human impact of late diagnosis and explores the ways in which individuals with life-limiting illness and their families can be given more space to make critical decisions about their own care and well-being.  The beating heart of this play though, is the compelling tale of a love that ended too soon.

‘Homeward Bound’ won the Patient Experience Network National Award for Partnership and was a finalist for the Health Service Journal Awards in the compassionate care category.
