All I wanted was a doll

Chronicling the early years of The Leeds Jewish Welfare board

The Leeds Jewish Welfare board, a unique organisation which has long provided health, social and welfare care for the City’s growing Jewish population, commissioned this play to commemorate 140 years of service.

The play takes the audience back to the early years of the Board – originally known as the Board of Guardians – and presents an intimate account of some of the most personal and authentic experiences of the board and community.

Despite its very specific focus, this is a timeless story: immigrant communities have always faced this same battle to retain their identity while also integrating and settling among the indigenous people of their new home.
